"Much of the suffering you have to endure comes, of course, from
outside yourself. And yet, the suffering inflicted on you for
which you are not directly responsible is, all the same, partly
your responsibility. Why? Because you have not learned how to
make yourself immune to it.
If you are so vulnerable, it is because the negative elements
sent you by the outside world strike a chord in you. And it may
even be that the harm is magnified because of the impurities and
darkness you harbour. If you tried to foster purity and light
within yourself, not only would the evil be neutralized but the
good you receive would become greater, too. Why, yes, if you are
unable to really feel the good that comes to you every day from
the visible and invisible worlds, it means that all sorts of
opaque matter in you are blocking it. You see, then, how
repelling evil, as well as attracting and preserving the good,
all depend on you."

"How many monarchs, throughout the course of history, have been
overthrown by the people, because they were not up to the task!
They thought they could get away with every injustice and
cruelty, but meanwhile others around them were in revolt,
covertly preparing their downfall.
Everyone knows this, but how many have understood that these
same rebellions and reversals of fortune also take place in
their own inner life? Within themselves, human beings (the
kings) will give way to laziness or debauchery and all kinds of
excess. Some time later, hostile forces seize them, throw them
into a dungeon and govern in their place; in other words, they
become victims of illness, accidents and psychological problems,
until such time as they understand they have a great deal to do
to regain their place at the head of their kingdom."

"When you consider the destiny of certain people, you are tempted
to say to yourself, ‘But lives like theirs make no sense. These
people had every opportunity to learn, to understand and do
something useful, but they’ve learned nothing, understood
nothing and done nothing!’ Well, you’re wrong. A human life is
just one link in a long chain. If you wish to understand what
someone experienced during one of their incarnations, don’t
consider the incarnation in isolation, but link it to all their
past incarnations over centuries and millennia, at the same time
being aware that this existence will continue into the future.
People never attach the correct significance to the present
unless they place it on a continuum stretching from the distant
past to an even more distant future. Perhaps they do not
understand the meaning of someone’s life, but that’s no reason
to say that such a life is meaningless, that it would have made
no difference if this person had never lived."

Everyone knows that eating too much is bad for their health. But
what they should also realize is that when people eat more than
they need they habitually take what was meant for others; and if
lots of people do this, with some eating too much and others not
enough, the result will be a world out of balance. The root
cause of all misunderstanding and confrontation is greed and the
lust for possession, the lack of moderation of those who
accumulate wealth (food, land, objects) that others are then
deprived of. Yes, a great moral can be drawn from the simple act
of eating.
The need people have to take and absorb more than they should
leads them to enslave others, even to suppress them at the least
sign of resistance or opposition. So this need to hoard
everything for oneself should be controlled, moderated and dealt
with as soon as possible. If it is not watched, it can reach such
gigantic proportions in all areas of existence, it will become
the source of the greatest injustice and ensuing unhappiness.
Each day, several times a day, you must use meal times as
opportunities to reflect on this problem."
